About Us

How We Got Here

Our Story

Our story began 111 years ago in 1911 with the birth of Mary Jane Pounds. When the Great Depression took hold of America, Mary Jane gave birth to a pair of boys. The youngest and my father, Herbert Haddox grew into a rambunctious young man. As an adult, Herbert devoted his life to taking care of those less fortunate. Known to everyone as “Herb”, he also traveled the world in pursuit of adventure. Herb retired and started a blueberry farm where he would make his own wine, even bottling it by hand and simply giving it away. My father’s grand lesson of selflessness is infused into the culture of our company. Herb’s lifetime of benevolence is the inspiration for Thanks For Saying High. However the phrase is more than just our tagline.. it’s a greeting, a mentality, a state of mind.. it’s the essence of who we are.

Our Future

Today I am starting this company as the grandson of Mary Jane and the son of Herb. Life has guided me down paths I never expected. However, I feel this business is the culmination of everything I have experienced so far. Cannabis has never been seen as just a product – it is a passion and a way of life. For years, people have risked their livelihoods to ensure that, like my father Herb, it is there to help those in need. Cannabis provides relief to children suffering from epilepsy. It also reduces painful nausea in cancer patients undergoing chemo and helps our nation’s veterans cope with the effects of PTSD. My father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in the last two years of his life, despite not smoking since the Sixties. As I watched him agonize, I realized exactly how much this plant is needed. The realization that the medicinal use of cannabis could have mitigated many of the symptoms and the physical toll of chemotherapy on my father and others like him , I knew this was a necessary alternative to pharmaceuticals.

With the overwhelming passage of Initiative 65 in 2020, the concept of Mary Jane & Herb’s took shape. From day one of design, this has truly been a labor of love. Here we are in 2023 and we are set to open the doors of our dispensary. Mainly, we want you to feel like a trip to Mary Jane & Herb’s is as comforting as visiting Grandma’s house. I remember my Grandma Mary Jane always had a table full of cakes, a bowl full of candy, and a heart full of love. Our business bears her name for that reason. Welcome to Grandma’s house.

Thanks For Saying High.
